The Only Gun You’ll Need to Survive When the Sh** Hits the Fan

Whether you’re a casual zombie prepper, a dedicated survivalist, or just someone who loves guns- there’s a gun on your wish list for every possible emergency situation.

When it comes to choosing a weapon for a true doomsday scenario- the options are just about endless. A person’s preference for the ideal bug out boomstick is probably going to teeter on two factors. One is the end of the world situation that seems most likely to them, and the second is personal preference.

Whether you expect to see a lot of people during your survival situation or hope to pass through a remote region unseen will decide the size of the gun you choose. After all, having a gun kind of makes you a target- especially if other survivors would like to take it from you.

The caliber of a survival weapon is a major deciding factor as well. If, suppose, you don’t expect to have to shoot for your life- then a lower caliber for hunting small game is probably better. But if you think a bear- or rogue cop- might stand in your way, that .22 rifle could start looking like a liability.

If you think you’re the only one who just can’t pick out any one best end of days gun, a quick look at backup military arms throughout history will prove otherwise.

There are many good answers to this question. Here’s the Honest Outlaw’s review with their pick for World’s Best Prepper Gun. Let us know if you agree or if you have a better option in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

Why does the Snowflake’s want to make all of Americans week? Are they trying to take over this country so that they can have complete control. To me that is a dictator. I thought that is why we had W W 1and W W 2. Maybe they should move to another country and forfeit their pension.

My rifle of choice is a 40 caliber pcp air rifle with a 40 caliber mold

  4. Paul Fitch says

If you can only have one weapon, a 12 Ga shotgun tactically dressed would be my choice. Birdshot, buckshot, rifled slugs sabot rounds all can be used for specific needs.

Birdshot for small game, Buckshot for larger game and self defense close in, rifled slugs for deer etc. and longer distance self defense and sabot rounds for even longer range.

All other types of weapons, pistols, rifles etc. have specific capabilities, but the shotgun gives you all that at only a small sacrifice in capability.

Beautiful looking gun. I have it on my wish list. National Gun Network. You do excellent work. Thank you!

    A shotgun.

My best gun solution to a rapidly dissolving civilization is an UZI 9 mm with a snail drum.

ill pick my sig dmr in 7.62 x 51 NATO ,I can take almost any game with it ,it’s scoped, a 2.5 x 15 x 50 valdata and I have 700 thousand rounds for it and twenty magazines from 10 to 60 round.and has 45 degree angled backup iron sights and l azr and a bright light.

my #1 gun wpuld be a 12 guage shot gun with plug taken out and extension attached, a # 3 choke and lots of buck shot. just plain buck, not #1 or #2 buck. each shell gives me around 12 30 calibur leads going out at enough force to kill at80 plus yards. that is fully loaded about 100 30 caliburleads. with a vari choke I canset it for close shooting, or long shooting. if I had a choice of 2 guns my other gun would be a 300 winchester mag. 1/4 mile at about 16 inches drop. have shot deer at 1200 yards with a 4 inch drop. An M1 30 cal carbine with 6 Banana magazines and a M1 Garand with 40 clips.

  11. stephen says

Either a pump shotgun loaded w buckshot and w plug removed to provide minimum of 5 shots-perhaps w extended magazine to give 6 or 7.
Alternatively, Socum M1A w high capacity mag

  12. Jim says

There is zero chance of a “Rogue” Police Officer standing in my way requiring that I shoot him. “I” am a retired Officer and I don’t know of any Cop who is willing to take my firearms away from me as he most likely has some at home for his wife as well as his other family members. Just isn’t going to happen. Now there may well be some anti-gun nuts that might try but they will not succeed. There also may be some b ad guys show up and unless they have a death wish, they will move on and not threaten me, my family, or my neighbors.

  13. ARTHUR BAILEY says

The only gun I would have to have at all times is a 12 gauge pump. Reliable, easy to load, scary for The bad guys, can use for food hunting and aiming isn’t a big issue. Whats not to like?

  14. John F Grychak says

Enough is Enough. These uruly kids are a pain in Americas’ ass. It’ s like the 60’s all over again, at least they had something to fight over, Vietnam was not a pretty thing for guys having to possibly facing, through the draft.

But these mindless twits now, no nothing, can’t they think for themselves. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. And in this day and age I want to have a gun around, for protection from all these Illegals, that these kids think is all love and games. They haven’t a clue about what renagades like all these Illegals, are doing to America, they have no patriotism, so they don’t care. All they know about is drugs, and good times. What a waste of youth, we now have in these so-called United States.

  15. Frank butler says

I rather have my 3030 , 50 cal machine gun or my 60 cal machine gun

  16. Michael says

I disagree, when the Liberals say Universal background means you have a son do you think that isn’t going to mean the same process as buying Anne’s firearm now!
Training, they will require so much training knowing it would be impossible for gentlemen have the ti!e to meet their training requirements! Forefathers provided my right long before Federal or State Governments even existed! They want to disarm Americans, this is why the forefathers wrote the 2nd Amendment For they lived having what happens when people are disarmed, until they said enough and fought back!

  17. Marcia Mason says

If the SHTF truly, and you had no ammo, You might still forage for lead and gunpowder. Black powder, that is. I’ll keep my .58 cal civil war style gun, as it is darn deadly and I don’t need shells. You can make the bullets, but the caps might run out. In which case, a flintlock might be better. Or, in more practical terms, an airgun would be the ultimate. If that wasn’t handy it’s back to a potato launcher. Lets just hope I never have to dig that deep.

  18. Edward Dosh says

Personally I prefer something that is easy to handle, is not complicated and does a satisfactory job of kicking ass. I along with many Nam vets like my Remington 870 as an all around piece of protection. At a time when hitting your target is a life or death situation I want something that gives me an edge and not the invader. Bast of luck to our brothers and sisters out in harms way but hope and pray that we never have to face a worst nightmare like we know could be possible.

  19. timothy mcphillips says

I’ll stick with my springfield armory m1a

  20. Irving Weiss says

Nice automatic, however, how to get the ammunition for it. I live in California where owning a gun is not permissive
for self-defense or anything else. And what about the price for this beauty, way beyond my budget.

  21. Delray W Kiser says

Nice rifle as most AK variants are but This, as many would not be my choice. First most, I’m not a great fan of stamp guns. I prefer a milled receiver over something not much thicker then a car fender, just me I guess. Secondly, for an all around gun, I would move up in caliber to 7.62/39 or .308. A much better round for larger game animals. Hydraulic failure in man or beast is the first key in a clean kill, then, impact energy. In almost 40 years of curing air addiction, I have had more one shot success with larger then smaller calibers. Just my opinion and experience and that’s what you asked for.

  22. Michael says

No, this is definitely not the bet SHTF gun. I believe they are right about the platform but not the caliber. The original AK47 is really the best choice as they have good knock down power, they work with just about any brand of ammo you feed them. They are a bit “loose” and will function almost always, whether they be muddy or sandy. If there truly was an apocalypse and many things were not available, such as a clean place to store your weapon and quality ammunition you would probably want an AK and a Glock. I personally love my Sig Sauer but we are talking about being able to drop your gun in the mud and still fire it.

  23. Robert F. Wagenknecht says

The one most recommended is a 12 gauge pump shot gun with 00 buck shot loads.
Personally i would rather have an auto-loading 12 gauge shotgun with the same loads.
My opinion is the assault rifle is a bit overkill for anything except WAR !

  24. Frank says

Hmm, well first of all, as soon as a reviewer says I changed this or that and I modified blah, blah and replaced it with this and that, I am turned off. It doesn’t make sense to say a product is good, but only after making various swaps and modifications. If it’s so good, then why rework, rebuild and swap parts? Also the price and possible lack of availability means an excessive amount of time and effort to acquire this weapon. And I don’t much care for having to familiarize myself with all the gadgets and brands that an experienced gun user and buyer spurts out as if it’s all common knowledge. I think this gun, no matter how good, seems rather lacking and not tested enough before final execution.
A “prepper friendly” firearm should be easily available, reasonably priced with all the bugs worked out, and for an end of the world firearm, I would prefer something a little sleeker for aimed shots. I feel the Ruger 10/22 or an M-14 combines the elements of more classic designs with a modern pistol grip and muzzle breaks, wood or synthetic stocks, etc.
This might be a good firearm, but if I can’t buy it off the rack and use it as is from the factory, then it’s more of a project or custom built firearm.

  25. Gary says

Of all the different guns on earth the 22 mag beats them all hands down! Carry more ammo and will kill any animal you have to kill to survive including humans

  26. Ronin says

I’d rather have a Valmet Ak

  27. Bill Corp Sr says

Our forefathers knew what they were doing. Hire police officers to stand guard in schools. Shooters won’t come near those schools because they want to kill many and not be killed before they accomplish their goals.
Letting students miss school to march in protest of guns is ridiculous. They need to convince the authorities to hire said police instead of violating school policy. I am dismayed that the FBI was notified of this shooter and did nothing.
    God bless the 17.
