Granted the Colt rifle is impressive, but now I see so many customized models and to me that complicates selecting, buying and maintaining and operating the weapon. So when speaking about the original M-16 series, the AR-15’s or the military issue M-4, I feel that they should be looked at individually, particularly now with direct impingement as an option.
The AK to my surprise is more modifiable than I thought and I do like the new black models, but functionality comes first. And that seems to be where they excel. Parts and ammo is plentiful, but then in reality, I know I can buy AR-15 parts from online and/or mail order sources or any gun shop.
I am interested in owning at least one AR-15, but am leaning towards an AK more and more due to the mechanical simplicity and I don’t need 100’s of choices in parts, I just want well made, reasonably priced parts. I want to note, I know it’s a variant, but I like the Mitchel Arms Counter Sniper AK, but it is chambered in .308. Then again so is the AR-10 or customized AR-15’s.
I just like it much like I favor the FN FAL, for open areas, a compact AK will serve most of us well.
