Sen. Kamala Harris Needs to Apply the Same Logic to Guns as Her Stand on Abortion

Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) isn’t a newcomer to the gun control v. citizen rights debate. For years, she has vigorously attacked civilian gun ownership, in particular, that of sporting and semi-automatic rifles. Harris has carried that crusade to promising an “assault weapons” ban would be at the top of her priority list if elected president.

At a recent CNN town hall hosted by network host Jake Tapper, she told the assembly, “There is no reason that in a society we have assault weapons around communities that can kill babies and police officers…[Take] universal background checks, it makes perfect sense that you might want to know before someone can buy a weapon that can kill another human being. You might want to know; have they been convicted of a felony where they committed violence? That’s just reasonable.”

Harris’ reference to a ban on weapons that “kill babies” is ironic considering her avowed support of abortion on demand, even up till the moment of birth. Yet, she has no problem using the specter of babies dying as the result of “assault weapon” for her appeal to confiscate law-abiding citizens weapon.

Senator Harris isn’t concerned about protecting the lives of babies. If her policy on abortion is ever implemented, it would ensure the lawful massacre of nearly a million unborn babies each year.

The bottom line is that politicians like Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke and Kamala Harris aren’t the least bit bothered by the glaring inconsistency of raising abortion to a fundamental right while at the same time denying something expressly guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.

Roger Katz of Ammoland writes, “She asserts the need to constrain the right of the people to keep and bear arms ostensibly to protect babies, and, yet, asserts, contemporaneously, an unconscionable desire to open the floodgates to wholesale slaughter of innocent babies, through the vehicle of late-term or on-demand abortion.”

As with so much that emanates from the left, arguments for universal background checks and banning “certain types of assault rifles” is a pretext for the outright confiscation of all firearms from the citizenry.

Harris’ convenient reference to saving the lives of children in conjunction with banning semi-automatic rifles is intentionally deceptive.

A USA Today report showed that 73 children, aged 12 or younger, died as the result of gunfire last year. That number has remained constant for the last five years. Consider the 862,000 abortions in the U.S during the same time period and the comparison becomes even more ludicrous.

According to the United Nations’ 2013 report there are nine nations in the world with a higher abortion rate than the U.S. (Bulgaria, Cuba, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Romania, Russia, Sweden, and Ukraine). **Though the U.N. lists China’s official abortion rate as less than the U.S.’s, China’s actual abortion rate is likely much higher. China refuses to reveal real data. It’s estimated that 13-23 million abortions happen every year in China, making them the nation with the highest abortion rate in the world.

The number of lives lost to abortion boggles the mind. Harris couldn’t care less about the approaching one million lives lost to abortion each year but advocates using the full force of the Federal Government to avenge 73 lost to gunfire.

How can any thinking person take Kamala Harris seriously when she says guns are the real problem while in the next breath advocates protection for those who make a business of taking a life?
