Ocasio-Cortez Finally Says Out Loud What We Knew She Always Wanted to Do to America: Ban and Confiscate Our Guns

Though her liberal defenders have denied it, there can be no doubt now that Democrat Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York is all in for a radical gun ban.

The 29-year-old spoke in support of New Zealand’s radical new gun control measures this past Thursday – steps that include the government-mandated confiscation of almost all semi-automatic firearms.

Ocasio-Cortez tweeted on Wednesday, “Sandy Hook happened 6 years ago, and we can’t even get the Senate to hold a vote on universal background checks w/ #HR8. Christchurch happened, and within days New Zealand acted to get weapons of war out of the consumer market.”

Linking to a video of New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announcing his country’s new gun laws, the Representative added, “This is what leadership looks like.”

In particular, Ocasio-Cortez was alluding to the Prime Minister’s speech when he told his countrymen, “…The legislation is developed, we will determine the time available for the return of military-style semi-automatic weapons and assault rifles, and the duration of the buyback scheme. I can assure people that there will be time for the returns to be As…made, and that they will not be criminalized overnight. After a reasonable period for returns, those who continue to possess these guns will be in contravention of the law. Currently, the penalties for this range from fines of up to $4,000 and or three years in prison. The draft legislation will look to increase these penalties.”

Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t hesitant to call for an absolute ban of all semi-automatic firearms, including handguns, as well as high capacity magazines and bump stocks.

“You know,” she tweeted, “instead of training children, teachers, houses of faith, & concertgoers to prep for being shot, we could just: Pass Universal Background checks (#HR8!), Disarm domestic abusers, Mandate safe storage, and Ban bump stocks, semiautos, & high cap mags designed to kill people.”

Like other gun-control radicals, Ocasio-Cortez failed to note that individuals with a criminal record are already prohibited from possessing a firearm and President Trump’s ban on bump stocks went into effect on Tuesday.

Buck Sexton of The Hill also notes that New Zealand is adopting the strategy of its neighbor, Australia, in calling on all citizens to turn in their semi-automatic weapons. He says Australia’s approach to gun control “wasn’t needed and didn’t work.” In fact, there are more guns in private hands in Australia now than before the 1996 ban and gun violence has simultaneously gone down for decades.”

It’s true, that the Congresswoman lends herself to memes, and she has sometimes been misquoted. Snopes proved how deep into the progressive pit it has sunk when it declared this past January that attempts to portray Ocasio-Cortez as in favor of a gun ban as blatantly false.

The writers of Snopes instead, deemed her a “firm believer” in the 2nd Amendment, and she only wanted to “prevent people with mental illness or a history of domestic abuse from purchasing guns.”

Either Snopes is being blatantly dishonest, or it exhibits the same basic ignorance of firearm terminology common to most of the left. New sales of true assault rifles have been illegal since 1986.

Semi-automatics are not assault weapons! Whether you fire a Glock, SIG Sauer P226, Remington 1911, or an AR-15 you can only discharge one shot per pull of the trigger.

Stephen Gutowski pointed this out in a tweet on March 22^nd, “AOC comes out in favor of banning semi-automatic firearms which make up the vast majority of legally-owned firearms in the United States.”

Snopes can try to protect her all it wants, but the fact is Representative Ocasio-Cortez is set on a path that Socialism always ultimately takes: disarming law-abiding citizens first through bribery and then by force.

Then-President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela led the Venezuelan National Assembly in 2012 to enact the “Control of Arms, Munitions and Disarmament Law,” with the aim to “disarm all citizens.”

When the law took effect in 2013, pro-democracy opposition figures showed little push back, buying into the idea the move was voluntary and for the purpose of fighting crime.

Chavez first ran a month-long amnesty program that encouraged Venezuelans to trade their arms for electrical goods. That year, only 37 guns were voluntarily surrendered. That same year, over 12,500 were confiscated by force.

One thing protects us from the same fate — the 2nd Amendment which Representative Ocasio-Cortez seems to regard or understanding of.
