Not Even Draconian Gun Control Can Stop California Mass Shootings

California is a utopian lollypop dreamland for any person who dislikes firearms. The Second Amendment has been pretty much nullified in the bluest of our blue states. The anti-gun laws on the books in California are so restrictive that this article is probably illegal in that state. Given that knowledge, you might think that it would be impossible for mass shootings to occur in California. But you’d be wrong if you think that.

Thanks to a new boatload of anti-gun laws signed by the Governor of California – Nancy Pelosi’s nephew Gavin Newsom – it must be even more difficult for someone to carry out a mass shooting there, right?

All firearms in California have to be registered with the state’s Department of Justice – including guns that you bring into the state when you move there. You can only own an “assault” rifle or a .50 BMG rifle in California if you obtain a permit from the state’s DOJ; ordinary citizens cannot get one of those permits under any circumstance, so “assault” rifles are effectively, completely banned. Magazines that hold more than 10 rounds are now banned, including those in weapons that were ‘grandfathered’ in a previous gun control law. In other words, most modern pistols are banned in California.

You cannot obtain a concealed-carry permit in most of the counties in California. In a handful of counties, you might be able to obtain one if you sit down for an interview with the sheriff and convince him that you’re not a Trump voter. There’s a 10-day waiting period to purchase a gun in California, and you have to submit to a federal background check before you will be allowed to purchase bullets.

California also has a red flag law in effect. Any police officer or random stranger who decides that you are a threat can petition a court to confiscate your guns. Private party sales and gifts of firearms are banned. If you want to give a gun to your spouse for protection, you first have to drag her to federal firearms license holder and pay for her to go through a background check.

Knowing that all of those laws are in effect, California must be a really safe place to live now, right? That’s the argument that the gun-grabbing left keeps making. Just pass these laws like they have in California at the federal level, and we’ll all suddenly live in safer communities!

But last week, California had three mass shootings in a four-day period. Twelve people, including two of the three shooters, were killed and another ten people were wounded.

Just over a week ago in Santa Clarita, California, a 16-year-old high school student shot five of his classmates and himself. He killed a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy and wounded some others before killing himself. He used a .45 caliber handgun with a seven-round magazine.

Last Saturday, a San Diego man shot and murdered his estranged wife and three of their young children before killing himself. A fourth child is in critical condition. Officials were quick to call it a case of murder-suicide or “domestic violence,” but it also fits the established definition of a mass shooting.

And on Sunday night, four people were shot and killed at a backyard NFL barbecue/party in Fresno, California. Six other people were wounded, and the suspect got away. That story nearly made national headlines, until the media realized that the shooter and all of the victims were black. Then the story completely vanished from the headlines. No anti-MAGA angle there.

Former congresswoman and current professional gun-grabber Gabrielle Giffords was quick to announce after the three mass shootings that Congress needs to pass her personal laundry list of gun control bills. You know, to prevent further mass shootings.

But wait a minute! California already has every single piece of anti-gun legislation on the books that Giffords wants to pass at the federal level. Universal background checks, magazine ban, assault weapon ban, red flag laws, almost total nonexistence of concealed carry permits. California has all that stuff!

And yet, despite having all of the magical unicorn gun control laws on the books that leftists are constantly salivating about, California is incapable of protecting people from mass shootings. Weird!

Keep that in mind if Congress ever gets over its impeachment tizzy fit and starts trying to pass more gun control laws. These laws obviously don’t work to prevent mass shootings.
