New Zealand’s Assault Rifle Ban Foreshadows Likely Efforts Here

Want to know what the future of owning and buying firearms in the United States likely would become under an anti-gun President? Look no further than New Zealand, which insanely is embracing zealous gun control measures that will accomplish nothing – aside from eroding the Second Amendment if similarly enacted in the United States.

Essentially, New Zealand is doing two things. The first is banning inanimate objects that were not used to massacre 50 worshipers. Specifically, scary looking, manly rifles and semi-automatic firearms that hold more than eight rounds no longer would be allowed.

That includes those already in circulation, which New Zealand intends to collect via a buyback program. That means no grandfather clause or protection for currently – and legally, owned firearms by responsible gun owners.

New Zealand does not have a gun registry. So, to ensure all banned firearms are in federal hands, New Zealand very well may enact a national gun registry. Gun registration laws are highly controversial in the United States, due to the Second Amendment, as well as privacy issues.

A national gun registration law that tracks every firearm currently owned or eventually sold in the United States is a highly sought after goal of anti-gun liberals. That’s because such a law enables the eventual confiscation of firearms.

Politicians everywhere greatly prefer exploiting tragedies to achieve political ends. The Christchurch massacre shows there is a global occurrence of deadly massacres of unarmed populations.

Here in the United States, anti-gun liberals would have voters believe the nation stands alone in enduring such tragedies, with military-style rifles mostly getting the blame. That leads to dumb policies getting proposed.

In New Zealand, those policies will be enacted by the middle of April. For America all it will take is one anti-Second Amendment president.

Six days after the shooter, who we will not be naming, massacred some 50 innocent and unarmed worshipers in two New Zealand mosques, that nation’s lawmakers employed a classic knee-jerk legislative tactic designed to make people feel good. That highly emotional knee jerk reaction is a sweeping ban of any and all scary looking black rifles and firearms – none of which were used in the recent massacre.

The shooter, an Australian who was visiting New Zealand, recently bought four firearms from a Christchurch gun dealer in New Zealand. He had to pass a universal criminal background check and a mental health background check. On the surface, there certainly is nothing wrong with background checks.

Yet, even liberals admit, background checks only affect when a firearm initially is sold into the civilian market. Without a national gun registry, the background checks accomplish relatively nothing. Expect that to happen in New Zealand, while being repeated in the United States if Democrats manage to seize full control of the federal government in 2020.

Universal background checks and mental health checks are primary components of liberals’ efforts to get Democrat lawmakers to back measures designed to erode the Second Amendment. Those fall short, though, when not done properly, like when the FBI and/or local law enforcement do not detect known criminal histories of violent felons and issue firearms to those already banned from owning or even having access to them.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s announcement of the “assault weapons” ban makes no sense when compared to the tragic events.  The shooter did not buy any military-style rifles, which liberals in the U.S. falsely refer to “assault rifles.”

Assault rifles have selective fire capability, which means fully automatic or semi-automatic. Military-style rifles only are semi-automatic, which requires a single trigger pull to send each round down range. Its already illegal to convert them to fully automatic in the United States, in New Zealand, and most other civilized nations, which is what the New Zealand shooter did. This alone proves more anti-gun laws won’t work, because criminals do not care about laws.

That isn’t stopping New Zealand from enacting laws that would not have stopped the shooter, and it won’t stop anti-gun liberals in the U.S. if Democrats control the federal government come 2020 or beyond.

Doubling down on the stupidity here, the far-left Democrats favorite empty mouthpiece applauded the moronic approach to addressing the problem. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY) applauded the knee-jerk reaction in New Zealand and clearly wants to see the same done here in the United States. “This is what leadership looks like,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed after hearing about the gun ban and buy back program.

As the apparent face of the new Democratic majority in the House of Representatives, her support of the inane policies in New Zealand echo those of longtime Democrats, like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Kamala Harris, Sen Elizabeth Warren and virtually all other 2020 Democrat presidential candidates. Expect more to come here, and look to Democrats to use New Zealand as an example.
