Los Angeles Is Now Targeting NRA Members

We can complain about the ineffectiveness of Congress. They continue to set records on incompetence. For all of that frustration, there is a silver lining. An ineffective Congress has trouble passing bills, and that makes it harder for the nefarious members of the Congress to attack our personal freedoms. We’ve seen that clearly in gun control.

At the federal level, gun-rights advocates have mostly been winning over the past 20 years. Unfortunately, the Democrats noticed, and they shifted the battle to local politics. The latest ordinance in Los Angeles is one of the most dangerous laws our country has ever seen, and it has completely escaped the attention of most of the country.

The New Ordinance

This was passed in the city of Los Angeles last week. Specifically, it targets NRA supporters. Any contractor or prospective contractor that will work with the city will have to disclose “under affidavit and contracts or sponsorship, they or their subsidiaries have with the NRA.”

Let’s talk about this in detail. For starters, the ordinance directly names the NRA. Now, the city is claiming there’s nothing wrong with this because the ordinance doesn’t bar NRA supporters from contracting with the city. That’s a thin argument. The reason the NRA is singled-out in legislation is to empower city officials to discriminate against NRA supporters. There’s not actually another reason to do this.

The NRA bears no impact whatsoever on contracting. It’s out of their scope of practice. Any excuse the left can make is just a smokescreen. The only motivation for this ordinance is political discrimination, and in case you don’t know, that’s the very most dangerous kind of discrimination in the world. Ok, it’s tied with religious discrimination.

Justification

The brain behind this attack is Councilman Mitch O’Farrell. When he presented his legislation, he went to lengths to justify it. Chief among those justifications was when he cited mass shootings as a reason to put this into law. That’s the key to the whole thing, so let’s focus on it.

City contractors don’t manufacture weapons. They don’t carry weapons. They have nothing to do with guns on any level. Trying to tie contractors to mass shootings isn’t illogical; it’s insane. More importantly, O’Farrell isn’t actually tying contractors to mass shootings. He’s trying to blame the NRA for them.

Now, there’s a good chance you’ve been over these arguments time and again. NRA members aren’t pulling the triggers. The NRA itself has perpetuated exactly 0 murders in its entire history.

But, the arguments don’t stop there. Every single scrap of research that has been done in regards to gun violence in the U.S. agrees with two points. First, gun violence has steadily decreased as gun ownership has risen. That becomes doubly true when concealed carry permits increase. By that metric alone, NRA efforts are decreasing mass shootings.

Reinforcing that truth is the second point. Every single scrap of research shows that mass shootings overwhelmingly occur in gun-free zones. The NRA’s efforts to protect the 2nd Amendment and empower self-defense are almost the only thing preventing a true epidemic of mass shootings.

Of course, liberals don’t care about that at all. Blaming the NRA for shootings is convenient, and they’re now using that irrational blame to justify laws that endorse political discrimination. This is the stuff of actual nightmares, and it’s worse than you think.

Weaponized Politics

This is unquestionably the most dangerous form of politics. Officials in Los Angeles have now legally empowered themselves to undercut business to any companies that disagree with their anti-gun agenda. This is the classic first step in every dictatorial takeover. In communist countries, they stop doing business with the good guys right before they nationalize industries.

From there, they take away gun rights and then they have total control of the people. This didn’t just happen in Venezuela, by the way. It’s the step-by-step method utilized by Stalin, Mao and every copycat that enslaved their populations for the last hundred years.

This might sound like extremism or an overreaction. It isn’t. Freedom only lasts while political opposition is present. Barring political opponents from participating in commerce is a direct attack on that freedom. It’s done specifically to reduce the power and influence of Republicans in L.A., and it’s being done so the Democrats never again have to participate in the peaceful transfer of power.

This is less than thinly-veiled. It’s an overt attack on democracy and freedom, and if we don’t fight against it tooth and nail, we’ll lose our country faster than you think. Make sure every red-blooded American in the country knows what is happening in California and why it’s so dangerous. Only an organized, focused effort can combat this evil.
