That Was Fast. FBI Wants a Social Media “Red Flag” Tool

I was just kidding last week when I suggested that the government would put its planned “Red Flag” gun grabbing program under the control of social media companies. I swear! But then today, what do I come across? The FBI has already put out bids to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other platforms to develop an AI pre-crime program. I wish I was kidding, but here we go.

The FBI said in its bid request that it wants to “acquire the services of a company to proactively identify and reactively monitor threats to the United States and its interests through a means of online sources.”

Uh huh. Did you catch the dirty trick in that line?

The FBI is a domestic law enforcement agency. They put “threats to the United States” in the bid contract to make less inquisitive folks think they’re talking about monitoring threats from things like ISIS fighters in France who are hoping to get a tourist visa to the US. But that’s not what the FBI does as a domestic law enforcement group. They’re planning to monitor us.

In case you missed it, FBI Director (and Russian collusion kook) Christopher Wray spent hours blathering in front of the House Judiciary Committee last week. He went on… and on… and on… for hours talking about the number one terrorist threat against America right now: white supremacists.

Not the drug cartels that are controlling our southern border. Not the Muslim refugees who keep joining ISIS and getting arrested at the airports. White supremacists.

The reason why President Trump hasn’t fired Christopher Wray and replaced him with somebody like Sheriff Richard Clarke by now is beyond me.

Anyway, here we have every fake news mainstream media outlet saying – every single day – that President Trump is a “white supremacist” and all Trump voters are “white supremacists” (even the black, Hispanic and Asian Trump supporters!), while the FBI Director is telling Congress that white supremacists are the biggest threat out there.

You can see how an AI-driven computer program could quickly target Trump supporters for red flagging in this environment. The idea behind the FBI’s social media red flag tool is basically ripped from that dumb Stephen Spielberg movie “Minority Report.”

In the film, a team of psychics that can predict the future sends the Washington, DC cops out to arrest people before they commit murder. (Curiously, all of Spielberg’s murderers in DC are white people.) As usual, Democrats look at this obvious cautionary tale against corrupt totalitarian authority and view it as an instruction manual.

If you think the FBI’s idea for an artificial intelligence pre-crime tool is a good idea, you’ve obviously been watching too much TV. AI will always have weaknesses and it will always be an unsolvable problem. This is because an AI program is basically a stationary robot that doesn’t have a soul.

It can be really smart and useful for some things. For example, we’ve all seen the AI program that can defeat the very best human chess champions. But when it comes to interpreting things like humor, anger and human emotions, AI is terrible. It’s next to worthless. It’s like the guy that never gets the punchline of the joke, no matter how many times or how slowly you explain it to him.

Imagine turning a machine with no sense of humor loose on Twitter and telling it to pick out “threats” against the United States. How is it going to tell the difference between an actual threat – someone saying they’re going to grab their guns and head to the local mall, for example – and a comedy channel posting NRA-themed memes that make fun of Hillary Clinton? The short answer is that AI can’t tell the difference.

Good grief, look at the Comments section under the articles on any site. People get rowdy sometimes. We all understand that we’re human beings venting frustration at the globalist elites who want to take our guns away. No one actually thinks that any of us are going to drive to DC tomorrow and start hanging politicians from lampposts. Well… Jeff might. But none of us like Jeff anyway.

With an AI program in charge of red-flagging people for social media posts and comments, anyone who vents online could get that 4 a.m. knock on the door from the local SWAT team.
