After the horrific school shooting in February, the left-wing media and Democrats have been working overtime to take down their current 2nd Amendment related target: the AR-15.
They are calling the AR-15 an assault weapon. Of course, anyone with even a small amount of experience with firearms understands that the AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle. It is not an assault weapon, and its name is an abbreviation for the name of the company that manufactures the gun, ArmaLite Rifle.
But the name of the gun and the way it looks are enough for those who want Americans defenseless to run on. This is a great example of why gun owners are advised to be very mindful of political optics when it comes to the ways they accessorize, load, store, and use their guns. Because it’s so easy to demonize guns and gun owners.
Now, they are going after the AR-15 because it is superficially similar to a weapon type that is already highly regulated- true assault weapons. The Clinton administration, in the 90s, rammed into law a comprehensive ban on assault weapons. So, now they are pretending that the AR-15 and bump stock weapons are the same as assault weapons and they are going after those.
When the AR-15 is gone, they will say something like this; “The AR-15 was a hunting rifle, we banned it because it was used in mass shootings. Now, we will ban ALL hunting rifles.”
If you follow this progression to its logical conclusion you can see that law-abiding citizens will eventually end up with nothing but rocks and kitchen knives to defend their homes. Then they will come for the kitchen knives. It’s an interesting side note to reflect on Asian systems of martial arts- most of which were developed by citizens whose weapons were made illegal by the state.
Every government that disarmed its citizens throughout history proceeded to tyrannize their people. Hitler, we must remember, disarmed Germany before he was able to go after the Jews.
Now, back to the Clinton assault weapon ban.
That law expired in 2005, and since then we have seen nearly 30 mass shootings, a rate that approaches 3.5 per year. That’s an increase of roughly 200%. But the population has also grown in size.
Jaclyn Schildkraut, a mass shootings researcher and assistant professor at the State University of New York at Oswego said, “If you have more shootings after the ban as well as a larger population, the numerator and denominator are increasing, the outcome number stays the same.”
The culture of gun fear that has been carefully crafted by the lying liberal media is largely created around the story of the Columbine Shooting. Dylan and Eric, the Columbine shooters, carried a semi-automatic handgun, a carbine rifle, and two sawed-off shotguns.
Everyone knows that sawed-off shotguns are extremely illegal. But that didn’t stop these two children from getting two of them.
That shooting happened during the Clinton assault weapons ban. The fact remains that what we are dealing with here is not a danger imposed by the highest level of weapons technology widely available to people- it is the differential in power between the armed and the unarmed.
Any weapon becomes deadly and unstoppable when the perpetrator is armed and the victim is not. In the Middle East and China, where guns can be very difficult to obtain- attacks with acid and knives are executed with high victim counts. Knife attacks in areas with thick crowds who are not armed are very effective.
It’s very important for people to understand this point: Democrats in Congress know the AR-15 is not an assault weapon. They also know their voting demographic can’t tell the difference between an AR-15 and an M16. They are selling fear.
Remember, they always go after weapons that look scary. Think of the butterfly knife. A butterfly knife is no more deadly than a pocket folder. But they go after the more emotionally effective item. After that, they can go for the next most emotionally effective item. Once they take the AR-15s, wooden stock hunting rifles are almost certain to be the next target.
After that happens, the next psychopath to get his hands on the next available weapon down the tier will commit a mass killing using whatever weapons are available. Then those weapons will fall under prohibitionist cross-hairs.
What people need to understand is that we are under direct attack by a usurping left-wing political class whose goal is to make Americans weak, so that we cannot resist the police state. Only those who don’t believe the current gun control debate is this serious need worry we’re overreacting.

It’s rediculous. Everything you said is what I believe. Something needs to happen to make the news report without taking sides like they are supposed to. This gets me so angry. Maybe in another up coming article you can list links to all the tv stations that are involved ( that is a very big number) so we can direct message them. The gullible, ignorant masses hear the word “automatic” in the description of the semi-automatic rifle and assume that it means rapid continuous firing (as in “machine gun”). Just about ALL guns are Semi-Automatic in that they carry more than one round of ammunition. However, only ONE round is fired with ONE trigger pull, subsequent rounds are released only ONE at a time for each trigger pull. Rapid fire is only as fast as you can pull the trigger and rapid fire will ensure erratic aim. An “assault rifle” is able to be set for continuous rounds with a single trigger pull and such rifle is not available to the general public. The highly vaunted assault rifle of media notoriety is only a moderately powered rifle good for deer and smaller game. There are hand guns with larger cartridges that have more destructive power. Even a revolver would meet the standard of “semi-automatic” for its capacity of 5 or 6 rounds.
I left out the word “automatic) in describing the military “automatic assault rifle” which is used by the military in combat.
Remember the SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL? The libs will indeed just go down the line until they ban all of them. What no one is paying any attention to is the fact that islamo terroists will no be stopped, by gun bans, from doing killing sprees. They will be studying the police response and contrive ways to succeed at another atrocity.
“The Clinton Gun Ban Failed…” b/c the 10 round magazine limit was not retroactive. Forced reloading is the only chance victims get to swarm the shooter. That’s what happened when Gabby Giffords was shot. The shooter had 33 rounds mags. If limited to 10, he’d’ve been grabbed sooner, and more people would be alive.
people need to realize that these are semi-automatic, you have to pull the trigger every time for a shot to be fired, they technically are not assualt weapons!!
