How Israel Protects its Schools from Gun Wielding Crazies
The proponents of gun control have been bullying us and guilting us with idiotic arguments like, ‘if you don’t support stricter gun control laws, you hate the children,’ for years. For one thing, they don’t understand simple gun statistics.
For example, they don’t understand that nearly all mass shootings happen in gun free zones. It stands to reason. Mass shooters may be deranged, but they don’t want to go to the target location and be shot dead the moment they pull out their weapons.
As another example, pro-gun control advocates look at facts like, increases in concealed carry permits raising the numbers of occasions when people successfully defend themselves. When something like this happens, they see the number of shootings go up, but because the news outlets they trust don’t report the news fully, they can’t understand what they’re hearing.
They see more shootings. They don’t see robberies, murders, and rapes prevented. They just see shootings.
The point is, when it comes to enacting sensible ways to protect children in schools from mass shooters, why should we be held back by people who refuse to look at the facts realistically?
What we do not have, is a clear case where restrictions on weapons reduce acts of violence. What we do have is the exact opposite. We have case after case where the more law abiding citizens are armed- the less violence there is in that area- and the best example we can think of is Israel.
Of course, the left hates Israel because it’s an outpost of western values in the Middle East. They see Israel as a bully because there is a whole industry of dishonest media coverage of what’s going on there. We had such a great example of dishonest coverage of the tensions there recently. When reporters asked Hamas why they were raising swastikas along the Israeli border, Hamas said “Because we want to kill Jews.”
The press tried to get them to answer differently, thinking perhaps that there was some kind of language barrier. They asked Hamas officials if they didn’t realize that flying Nazi banners made them look like villains, the response was, “No, it is not a mistake. We hate the Jews and want them to burn. We want them to know that we want them to burn. That is why we fly these flags.”
Here in the United States, we may have to wade through the fog of fake news and corporate and academic lies. But in Israel, they are in a fight for their lives. They don’t have time to fuss about whether or not scary looking guns make people go crazy. They know that an armed people is a safer people.
That is why they protect their schools with armed guards. And it works.
Israel has given us the best example we could hope for of what happens when you harden a target against shooters. In Israel, civilians are trained and expected to carry weapons.
If you’ve ever been on a gun range it should be glaringly apparent why this works. When everyone is armed, everyone is polite.
But in Israel, the situation is much more serious than that. They have to deal with the day to day experience of Palestinians trying to tunnel under their cities to gain access to schools for the expressed purpose of killing Israeli children in as brutal a fashion as possible.
In 2017, Israel National news writes; “[…] the overwhelming majority of terror attacks in Israel are stopped by armed civilians, not law enforcement. For example, the terrorists in the 2016 Sarona market attack were stopped by armed passersby. A pistol-carrying tour guide put an end to the 2017 ramming attack in Arnona that left four soldiers dead.”
Here in the United States, school shootings are far too common- yet the nature of our country keeps most of these events remote from most of us. Israel is about the size of Delaware. When they have a terrorist attack- they all feel the ramifications immediately.
To them, there is no time to debate. There is no safety in distance or great numbers.
This is a major weakness that we have to live with here in the U.S. In the meantime, we would do well to look to the example Israel has provided for us and protect ourselves and our children without any further delay.
