Are there any demographic groups that are more maligned in 2018 than concealed carry holders and police? Perhaps “white men” with all of their privilege, but they’re usually lumped in with the police and CCW folks.
We have NFL players and Hillary Clinton calling the police “fascists,” “pigs” and “baby killers,” while the mainstream media thinks every concealed permit holder is a dangerous Tea Partier with a statue of Trump in their basement.
Contrary to all the current propaganda from the media and gun-grabbers, it turns out that cops AND concealed carry permit holders are two of the most law-abiding groups in America. So, how do those groups compare to each other and to the general population?
We understand that comparisons like this are always controversial. Somebody always gets their toes stepped on a little bit. “How dare you say that police commit more crimes?!” Well, they do. That’s not our point and we’re not here to beat up on the police or on CCW holders. We’re actually defending both groups. If you really want to see people fly into a rage, do a comparison of Catholic priest sex crimes versus public school teachers. Now that makes people mad!
We’re doing this comparison because this information is important for people to have. A Florida state representative repeated the claim earlier this year that CCW holders commit fewer crimes than police while debating anti-gun legislation. The media savaged Rep. Matt Caldwell. Almost every news outlet in Florida openly called him a “liar” despite making a factual claim. Truth matters, so we have to explore these issues to stand up for our rights.
The New York Times constantly publishes lying pieces making the claim that concealed carry permit holders are more violent than the general population! The paper fudges the numbers by including ALL defensive gun uses by CCW holders as “murders” – even after a jury rules the shootings as justified and acquits the patriot of all charges.
If a concealed carry permit holder commits suicide by jumping off a bridge or sticking his head in the oven, the New York Times counts it as a “gun homicide” by a permit holder. That’s so ridiculous that it would be funny if the subject weren’t so serious.
So, are police and concealed carry permit holders far more violent than the general population? Not even close, according to America’s leading gun researcher, John Lott.
The numbers are extremely difficult to quantify, because every state counts things differently (or not at all) and the FBI uses yet another standard. We do, however, know that there were 683,396 full-time cops on the job, give or take a few, from 2005 through 2007. We also know that police committed an average of 703 crimes per year during that period, working out to a rate of 102 per 100,000.
Mr. Lott was able to gather good data from 22 states, including Florida and Texas, and extrapolate those to compare concealed carry permit holder crimes to police crimes. In Texas, the numbers worked out to 108 crimes per 1 million CCW permit holders (10.8 per 100,000). That pattern held consistent for all 22 states Lott compared.
In layman’s terms, police are 10.8 times as likely to commit a crime as a concealed carry permit holder. For offenses specifically related to firearms, rather than drunk driving or other infractions, police are 7 times more likely to commit these crimes than CCW permit holders.
Before anyone gets mad and accuses us of running around in a Colin Kaepernick jersey, those numbers blow other demographics out of the water. Members of the general population are 21 times more likely than a police officer to commit a crime of any type.
Despite all the media hysteria about police violence, cops are still some of the most law-abiding citizens in our nation. Concealed carry holders just happen to be one of the few groups that is even MORE law abiding. We’d compare the numbers to crimes committed by illegal aliens if we could, for an even more eye-opening experience, but the government and the media hide those numbers from the American people.
Don’t let anyone in the media or in the gun-grabbing left try to push you around with biased statistics, whether you’re a cop or a CCW permit holder. They’re lying, and the numbers prove it.
