Armed Citizens Step Up After Hurricane

The aftermath coverage of hurricane Michael has been surprisingly light. Maybe it was overshadowed by Lying Liz’s DNA fallout or Crooked Hillary telling women its ok if Bill hits on you as long as you’re an adult. Maybe the country has a tiny attention span. The media certainly does. The lack of attention does not indicate that there is a lack of stories to tell.

In the middle of it all is a tale that is equal parts enraging and uplifting. The people of Florida never fail to provide us plenty of both, and this story will teach you a few important things about people and the country in which we live.

Hurricane Michael

A big storm hit Florida recently. That’s an understatement. A monster Category 4 hurricane ravaged the Florida Panhandle. It was one of the most devastating to ever hit land on U.S. soil, and the nature of its approach made the situation far worse than anyone hoped. It picked up massive power just before landfall, so many who were underestimating the danger of the storm were caught unaware. It might not have been the end-of-times storm mainstream media wanted to portray, but it left real destruction in its wake.

Thankfully, President Trump and the Florida government were prepared. They issued evacuations early, and they said all along that the potential to gain wind speed at the last minute was something to take seriously. They deployed relief efforts, and considering how hard the region was hit, it’s difficult to imagine the government handling everything better than they did. Unfortunately, ugliness can still arise even in the rare circumstances that the government doesn’t screw up.

The Ugly Side of Humanity

When people are vulnerable, you will mainly see two responses. We like to focus on the first. Everyday Americans step up to a challenge and go to great lengths to help each other. It never fails to inspire, and every year we get to witness wonderful examples of it.

On the flip side, there are people who exploit the vulnerable. They see chaos, for whatever reason, and seize it as an opportunity to make a quick buck or get away with their darkest desires. We focus on it less, but it happens just as frequently. In the case of one small town struck by Michael, the rampant looting was downright despicable.

The little Panhandle town has a population of about 2,000. That means the people don’t have their own police force. Instead, they have to rely on the county sheriff, and that department was completely overmatched. Recognizing opportunity, looters struck as soon as the storm cleared. In an attempt to help the limited police presence, firefighters guarded stores between shifts. They were quickly exhausted, so the mayor, fire chief and sheriff asked the citizens to lend a hand.

That’s exactly what happened. Armed citizens organized and completely took over the effort of protecting the town from looters. The firefighters were able to rest and devote their attention to saving lives. It’s a story that starts ugly, but it has an inspiring ending.

The Right to Self-Defense

For those of you keeping score, this is the exact definition of a modern militia. It’s also a key example why the 2nd Amendment is so important. Liberals will try to tell you that we have enough military and police to solve everything. Clearly, that wasn’t the case in Florida. When the need arose, it was the legal gun owners who were able to organize, rally and save the day.

They didn’t need official ranks or uniforms, and yet, the were perfectly regulated. The right to self-defense isn’t limited to masked strangers invading your home at night. It is the right for the good people of this country to stop evil whenever and wherever they find it.

Obviously, the mainstream media has completely ignored this story. The last thing they want is an example of an American militia saving people in the wake of tragedy and disaster. The last thing they want is to acknowledge anything good that comes from America or her people. Don’t let the mainstream media have the last word. Share this story far and wide, and let the world know who Americans really are. More importantly, make sure the mainstream media and the left know that their time has come and gone this November.
