Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Is Why We Need the Second Amendment
You can’t go a day without hearing about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). The self-described socialist is the hot new take for Democrats, and she’s wasting no time in running her mouth on frightening policies on propositions. Scarier yet, she’s being cheered by a loud, vocal minority.
There’s no question that she’s in the gun-grabber camp, and that might not be the worst component of her ideology. For all of the talk and back and forth, only a fool would underestimate her. She is a clear threat to our country.
While our fates are not yet sealed, it’s important to understand just how abnormal of a politician she is. Normally we might welcome a Washington outsider, but in her case, the abnormalities only add fuel to the fire.
There’s a huge problem baked into AOC’s position in our federal government. She was elected by a difference of roughly 4,000 votes. Now, close elections are a thing that happen. Hers wasn’t, and that’s one of the major problems. In a district with well over a million registered voters, only 15,897 cast theirs for AOC. She has the same legislative power as any other member of the House, and she represents fewer Americans than pass through the Atlanta airport in a day. Actually, she represents a tenth as many.
Let’s try for a little more perspective. AOC’s voter base constitutes 0.000048 percent of the U.S. population. In the past election, the average winner had far more than 100,000 votes cast for them. Most representatives were elected by 0.0003 percent of the population or more. That’s a minimum of roughly 10 times the number of votes.
It gets worse. AOC actually has more legislative power than your average Representative because of the darling media coverage she receives. Outlets have given her so much air time that the Democratic caucus is forced to pay attention to what she says.
She was elected with a modern record-low number of votes, and she is now among the most powerful people in our country. No matter what legislation she suggests, tyranny is baked into the equation.
As any cynic could guess, AOC’s problems extend far beyond her ridiculous election. She doesn’t just have disproportionate power; she’s also a natural tyrant. She’s been a member of Congress for less than a month and she’s already pitched close to a dozen policies that would represent massive increases in federal power and clearly violate personal rights.
Not least of those proposals is a 70-percent income tax to fund a “Green New Deal.” That level of taxation is already authoritarian, but it’s attached to a program that would severely limit business and personal rights to decide how you use modern electricity and energy. She would tell you how many miles you’re allowed to drive in a week.
On top of that, the majority of her ideas have discriminatory practices built into them. She wants hiring, healthcare and housing to all be redistributed according to race and income. Those are huge proposals. Deciding when a person can buy a house or what health care they can access is not a power we want to hand to the government. She might attain that power with fewer than 16,000 votes. Remote military bases house more people than that.
So far we have a Representative with above average power, espousing dangerously aggressive federal overreach while representing a minority so small it’s hard to put into perspective. If that wasn’t enough, she’s also a proven moron. It seems like her goal is to have the stupidest Twitter account in the world, and she’s off to a great start. Don’t get her to talk about anything mathematical, because you’ll get complete failure.
So, why are we talking about guns? Besides AOC’s commitment to taking them away from you, she was exactly the politician the founders had in mind when they wrote the 2nd Amendment. There is no question that at least one of the motivations behind it was empowering the people to resist a tyrannical government. AOC is that tyrant. She may not yet have the authority to destroy America, but she’s hell bent on getting it and on a fast track to that destination.
We’ll always hope that the system and reasonable discourse will win the day. If they don’t, it’s going to be a matter of life and death. You’ll want to be sure you still have all of your firearms on that day. After all, it’s better to have them and not need them than to be ruled by a tyrannical idiot.
